Chapter 8 DECADE EIGHT 2000 - 200X

Following amalgamation of the Ottawa Kinsmen and Kinettes in 1999, and the charter of a new club, the renamed National Capital Kin Club is enjoying a resurgence of interest in volunteerism and fellowship.

The most recent decade will be remembered by most of the current members as the decade of renewal. Although the numbers had dropped severely in the late 90's, with the hosting of National Convention in 2002 along with it came a renewed sense of purpose for its members.

The Club continues with its work with Cystic Fibrosis, the Terry Fox Run, the Girl Guides' Skate-a-thon and Canada Day festivities, to name only a few and carries on with a 75 year history of fundraising through a variety of activities.

The members continue to enjoy the kinship through many social and community activities that the Ottawa clubs have been famous for.

The club reflected changes in the association. The Kinette Co-Ordinator position had changed to Kinette Deputy-Governor. When the reduction in clubs required Zone Ottawa Valley to go to a single Deputy-Governor, Jill Henry was the first Kinette to hold the position. The same changes were made at the District level and Fran Allen was the first Kinette to be a solo Governor.

    EPILOGUE

Kinsmen, the Ottawa version, has, in the first seventy-five years substantiated the Founder's wish of 1930 that a "lively and thriving" club be formed. It has had its ups and downs but the National Capital Kin Club remains solid and a pillar in our community. Kinsmen, Kinettes, K-40 and K-Ettes look forward to the next seventy-five years. It is our hope, that the National Capital Kin Club can serve our community in the future as well as those before us have.

The Kin Canada Crest was adopted as the official crest during the 2000's.
