With declining participation and our inability to determine whether there was interest in participating in Skate-a-Thon this year, we have decided not to schedule a date for Skate-a-Thon.
For the past twenty year Skate-a-Thon has been a joint project of the National Capital Kin Club and the Girl Guides of Canada (Ottawa area): Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders, Senior Branch. Other organisations have participated occasionally.
Skate-a-Thon is a joint fund raising venture that involves a fun day of skating on the Rideau Canal for pledged skaters and their families. Pledged funds are split evenly between the skating group and the Kin Club. The Kin Club pays all of the expenses to run Skate-a-Thon.
Skating has taken place on the Rideau Canal or Dow's Lake since the canal opened for skating in 1971.
To raise money. To have fun.
We still have the equipment, activity badges and a need to raise funds. Pledge forms can be produced on short notice. If your unit or group is interested in holding a skating event, on the Rideau Canal or elsewhere, please contact us at okskatathon12@gmail.com to see if we can help.
